Mold Toxicity

What is mold toxicity?

Are you or a family member experiencing chronic fatigue symptoms, autoimmune, respiratory, allergic, or inflammation-related issues despite a healthy diet, exercise, or otherwise obvious cause? In some cases, exposure to mold spores and biotoxins may be to blame.

Mold is a type of fungus that grows in moist, damp places. Although not all molds are toxic, exposure to damp and moldy environments can result in a range of health problems, from no reaction at all to mild discomfort, more severe health reactions, and even chronic medical issues.

A condition called “mold toxicity” can develop with excessive mold exposure, the presence of mold you’re sensitive to, or exposure to specific types of mold known to cause health issues.

The health consequences of mold toxicity

For some individuals, mold exposure can trigger and exacerbate respiratory and autoimmune conditions, including sinusitis, asthma, lung disease, and allergies. Chronic fatigue and multiple neurological and digestive symptoms can also ensue.

Evidence suggests that mold and mycotoxin exposure increase the systemic inflammatory response and can even cause a condition known as chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS).

How we test for mold toxicity

To evaluate a person for mold toxicity, we may recommend tests to check for the presence of mycotoxins in the blood and urine. Testing for specific immune markers and hormones in the blood may also indicate mold toxicity. If indicated, genetic testing can offer valuable information about the risk of developing mold toxicity and associated health issues.

Charting a path to wellness

Treatment and recovery involve reducing mold exposure and detoxifying the body to reduce the mold burden!

  • Identify the source of mold in your environment and take steps to have it eliminated.
  • Follow our recommendations for an anti-inflammatory diet and supplements to help reestablish a healthy gut microbiome and support detoxification.
  • NAD+ therapy, as recommended to restore healthy levels depleted by illness and oxidative stress.

If you suspect you may be suffering from mold toxicity, our office can help reduce your symptoms, restore your health, and sense of overall well-being.
